Re: Is Nuclear War Coming?
Nobody is saying there is only good and bad branded. My point about both sides committing atrocities surely made that clear.

You seem to be arguing that "Koreans" have some sort of bone to pick with the yanks due to their intervention in the civil war in the 50s. I'm simply explaining why your argument doesn't really hold much water, much like your point about China staying out of it so they don't upset the Koreans living in China.

Whenever I read in the news that Kim has done a missile or bomb test, half the time it blows up prematurely on the tarmac or doubles back on itself and crashes into his cucumber frames or something. Always good for a giggle. I wouldn't be surprised if most of his weapons are duds and the rest are made out of balsa wood and sprayed silver.

Re: Is Nuclear War Coming?
Not sure I'd quibble about 7% here. It doesn't do a lot to change the brutality of it. Sadly, discrepancy in figures leads people to forget about the underlying point being made and fuss about numbers. That's the sorry state of debating anything today.

My point is really that the US didn't have to go beyond the 38th parallel and pursue the North. This lead to mass civilian loss of life and I'm sure people up there remember that. So even though they may hate KIm, I dont think they're in love with the US either.

So that provides a bit of context. And bare in mind the Napalm stuff in Vietnam where America went for the ultimate civilian brutality in trying to win that war as well.

Nobody is ever unblemished in war. Its just that type of party really. But, you do have to wonder about the cheapness of civilian lives when they aren't American's losing them. And how that creates animosity for decades after. And then modern Americans cant understand what the fuss is about. Not everyone forgets bad shit.

Also, crying for intervention and regime change from your armchair in Canada isn't the same as being under the flight path of a US bomber in some paddy field. Very different emotions I'd expect.

I think that how you judge others is based ipon your education and influences. The idea there is simple good and bad is plain bonkers. There are historical truths and these can and will always be used by politicians for their own ends. Dictatorships are most often not good for those in disagreement with the dictator but history shows there's often great support for them too.

Until Nostradamus's third antichrist "Mabus" enters the scene I'll personally try not to get too worried!! Incidentally the 75th United States Secretary of the Navy from 2009 to 2017 was in fact called Ray Mabus. Just a bit of totally useless information for you!!!

"The Yanks did most of the destruction so I would say are responsible for the misery that the people who lived in their own country went through and what they now remember."

You're talking about a civil war nearly 70 years ago.

Do you not think that North Korea's regime since then has been slightly miserable for its inhabitants? What with the famines, slavery, public executions, concentration camps, purges etc etc?

You also seem to be deliberately ignoring the fact that one side of the Korean war were on the same side as the yanks. The side with the bigger population. And the fact that about 2 million Koreans live in America. Think about how that contests with what you're saying.

"The Yanks did most of the destruction so I would say are responsible for the misery that the people who lived in their own country went through and what they now remember."

That is ridiculous statement. The police state that existed in various forms for 60 some years since had nothing to do with it?

Germany got pretty badly bombed by us too, but how happy the people there were in the years following was pretty much dependent on what side of the Iron Curtain they were.

Re: Is Nuclear War Coming?
The danger isn't so much in nk's desire to bomb the u.s, they clearly understand that they would be obliterated if they did so, or visa versa, even Trump must realise what a dangerous step that would be.

The danger is in a possible miscalculation caused by mistrust as the two leaders ramp up the rhetoric, see operation able archer for an example of how it's possible.

Thankfully nuclear war is still highly unlikely, for now.

Mashed, it wasn't just Brits and Yanks on South Korea's side. It was a United Nations force, with combatants from 21 countries serving. Although mainly symbolic (the USA and Korea were by far the bulk of the forces) in terms of the numbers of non US and Korean troops, it was seen as the first real test in the UN, standing up to aggression.

OK.
So Koreans in Canada want a regime change. Quelle suprise?
The Yanks did most of the destruction so I would say are responsible for the misery that the people who lived in their own country went through and what they now remember.

Its very easy to see all this in terms of black and white or like some comic book good and evil thing.

Re: Is Nuclear War Coming?
It was a civil war, one side being communist. The yanks (and Brits) went in on the side of the South. The north were supported by China and the Soviets. China lost far more troops there than the Brits and Yanks combined. Both sides committed atrocities against the civilian population and let's be frank, communists are hardly known for their respect for human rights.

What point you're trying to make by making out that America were the bad guys against "all Koreans" I don't know.

"Well." - is that code for "Whoops - I should not spout off numbers I don't really understand?"

I do know this.

The Korean Americans and Korean Canadians I have known like the "Yanks" a lot more than they do the North Korean government or the the people that run its police state. And they don't have to live in it anymore/

Do they want a new Korean War now? No. But then no decent person does.
Would they love a different government in North Korea? Yes
